Question about MGS...

I just bought a PS3 mainly for the Blu-ray, but the opportunity to play games is a sweet extra feature. I definately want to play MGS4, but I've always had an XBOX or a 360 until now, and haven't played any of the Metal Gear or Metal Gear Solid's before. Will I be lost if I go right into MGS4, and if so, should I just wikipedia the previous games to learn the plot, or what?

... someone at SG also posted a good video recap of the series as well, I don't have the link but it was at Gametrailers.com, I'm sure it's easy to find there.

The wikipedia article will be sufficient enough, and I won't be lost during the 4th game though?

it's not the same as experiencing the story while playing, but it should be good enough.
